Ill:. Robert L. Goldsmith was born on January 19, 1931 in Malden, Massachusetts. After graduation from Malden High School in 1949, he served in the National Guard for 12 years. He moved to Melbourne, Florida in 1953 where he met and married Evelyn Claire Meadows. He and Evelyn had three children; two daughters and one son, seven grandchildren and one great grandson. Evelyn passed away in 1991.

In Melbourne, Ill:. Brother Goldsmith owned and operated Harbor City Oil Company and as a police officer on the Eau Gallie Police Department. He served as a Director of the Eau Gallie Chamber of Commerce and as an officer in the Eau Gallie Lions Club and was a member of the Rotary Club of Eau Gallie.

On July 30, 1999, he married his lovely and constant companion, Joan, and made the move to Jacksonville, Florida.

Ill:. Brother Goldsmith was Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in Harbor City Lodge No. 318 on December 7, 1969 and served as Worshipful Master of Harbor City Lodge in 1973. In 1976, he served the Grand Lodge as Grand Marshal and as District Deputy Grand master of the (old) 23rd District in 1978. In 1980, he was elected Junior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Florida and progressed through the elected line. On May 9, 1983, he was elected Most Worshipful Grand Master.

He was a life member of the Cocoa York Rite bodies, a recipient of the DeMolay Honorary Legion of Honor, and an honorary member of the DeMolay International Supreme Council.

In 1970, he became a Master of the Royal Secret in the Valley of Lake Worth. He presided over the Council of Kadosh in the Valley of Lake Worth in 1981 as Commander. He was invested with the Rank and Decoration of Knights Commander of the Court of Honour in 1977 and in 1983 was coroneted an Inspector General Honorary 33°.

On May 3, 1988, Ill:. Brother Goldsmith was appointed a Deputy of the Supreme Council in the Orient of Florida and on October 13, 1989 was unanimously elected Sovereign Grand Inspector General in Florida. During his years of service on the Supreme Council, he served as Grand Orator, Grand Minister of State and in 2005 was elected Grand Prior. Since 1993, he has served the Supreme Council as the Chairman of the Jurisprudence and Legislation Committee.
